Our Alpacas - 05/23/17

The skete has a small alpaca herd!

Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of southern Peru, western Bolivia, Ecuador and northern Chile at an altitude of 3,500m - 5,000m (11,500-16,00 feet) above sea level, bred specifically for their fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items. While similar to shep's wool it is warmer, not prickly and has no lanolin.

Curious, gentle and peaceful they always welcome attention. They are beautiful and calming to look and are the ultimate stress reliver. Our pilgrims specially children just love to spend time with them.
